Who's the Real D*ck?

Mark Halperin was suspended indefinitely from MSNBC for calling President Obama a "dick" on MSNBC's Morning Joe program on Thursday morning. There he was even though the hosts were clearly stunned by his outburst laughing like he said something so cool. What moron asks if there is a 7 second delay before cursing on-air? That shows premeditation. You're on live television. Not during a commercial break where he thought the microphones were off, but LIVE television. You would think someone that works for TIME magazine would be smarter than that. Sure the hosts were guilty of egging him on "go for it, let's see what happens." Clearly they were not expecting what Halperin said.

I mean, it makes no sense to even wonder what this man was thinking because he clearly wasn't thinking. I am sure Halperin echoed the sentiments of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, but none of those guys have ever said it out loud. How many Black people have felt the exact same way about President Bush and never asked for a 7 second delay before bashing him. And what about the guy who couldn't figure out which button  to press to make sure the comment never came across on air. Millions of people out of work and this guy can't find the dump button.

Tracy Morgan puts his foot in his mouth again

Maybe Tracy Morgan should just go back to the drawing board and rewrite all his material. After coming under fire for his homophobic rant on June 3rd, Morgan, in his first appearance since the infamous stage show in Tennessee, went on another rant about the developmentally disabled. At Caroline's Comedy Club in New York Morgan told the crowd not to "date women with retarded kids" because they are "strong as chimps".

The bit reportedly drew groans from the crowd no doubt shocked that Morgan would go down that road again after the controversy that had him on an apology tour in Nashville.

I can't say that I am surprised at how insensitive, or better yet, clueless Morgan is. This is the same guy that said Sarah Palin was good "masturbation material" live on-air during an interview at a Knicks game.

Thought of the Day

This particular blog post is brought to you by...

Alexander O'Neal and whoever let him go on stage at the 2011 BET Awards without his "snap-on smile" (just saw that ridiculous commercial the other day).

Whose idea was it to let this man get back on stage at this time and butcher his classic "Saturday Love"? O'Neal could not hold a note. He looked like he just took a shot of ripple and stumbled on stage. He looked like Gator from Jungle Fever doing a dance for his mama for some drug money. In fact he sounded like...

"Sexual Chocolate!!"

Let me not insult the incomparable Randy "because the greatest" Watson like that.

This is how "Saturday Love" sounded back in the 80's albeit lipsynced....

I Got This, Michelle

This is hilarious! Check out the look on Barack Obama's face at the 21 second mark.

Top 10 videos/performances by Michael Jackson (in no particular order)

It has been two years since Michael Jackson tragically died of a drug overdose ending 45 years of musical brilliance. Here are my top 10 video/live performances from the master showman. A few of these videos I learned and acted out move for move ("Thriller", "Beat It", "I Want You Back", "Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough"). When an entertainer has that affect on you, he is special.

"Bad" - 1987 (don't mess with Michael)

"Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" - 1979 (The smooth moves were coming together)

"I Want You Back" - 1969 (This is where it all started)

"Off The Wall" Live on tour (Michael in his element performing one of his classics)

"Sugar Daddy"  - 1972 (love the dance routine at the end)

"Remember The Time" - 1993 (classic video and dance sequence)

"Beat It" - 1983 (classic Michael)

"Earth Song" - 1995 (powerful record and the video sends home Michael's message)

"Thriller" - 1983 (the standard for all music video - nuff said)

"Billie Jean - Motown 25" - 1983 (ok I lied this is in order because this is the top performance. This performance verified that Michael had arrived as a bonafide superstar - and ended his brother's careers)

R.I.P. Michael

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson. To say he influenced me would be stating the obvious for millions of people. You are still missed.

R.I.P, King

Death at a Funeral

In a story straight out of a movie, a Russian woman believed to be dead (allegedly confirmed by doctors)was laying in a coffin at her own funeral and woke up. When she saw her sobbing relatives and realized she was about to be buried alive she panicked and had a heart attack that killed her for real.

Can't make this stuff up, apparently.

7 Year Old on a Mission To See Dad

A 7-year old boy from Michigan stole his stepfather's car and drove at speeds up to 70 miles per hour! This wasn't any ordinary joy ride. This toddler was trying to get to the house of his biological dad. Forget for a second how crazy this story is on all levels. How did this kid learn how to drive first of all? Some adults can't control their car on a regular street let alone a highway. This kid could barely see over the steering wheel. Luckily cops were able to pull in front of him and get him to stop (he even knew to apply the brake when another vehicle impeded his path).

This kid was definitely not happy with his living arrangement. Luckily no one was hurt.

Only In America

Question. Who takes the time to update their Facebook status while in a hostage standoff with the SWAT team?

This guy.

Jason Valdez decided to send a goodbye post to his "friends" in case he didn't make it out of the motel (in Utah!) he barricaded himself in with a "hostage" alive. After 16 hours shots were fired but no one was hurt. Valdez was wanted on a drug warrant and when cops arrived to arrest him, he decided he did not want to go back to jail.

How about not dealing drugs anymore and you won't have to worry about that.

Thought of the Day

On a weekend where we are celebrating fathers, there were at least 10 incidents of gun violence in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. it is bad enough fathers day weekend is not filled with the pageantry and vendors selling flowers and balloons and other gifts like we see on Mother's Day, but to just blatantly stain the weekend is ridiculous.

What part of the game is it when a guy gets sucker punched trying to break up an argument then pulls out a gun and starts shooting at random people? What happened to finding out exactly who punched you and fighting THAT person?

Smh.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the Father's out there doing their job. To all the father's that cannot be with their kids on this day due to circumstances beyond their control, keep your head up. All the father's in the military serving our country: be safe and thank you for your service!

Thank you to all the mother's playing the role of father as well and all the stepfather's and social fathers for embracing children that are not biologically yours.

Happy father's day to Jerry Barrow, Senior Editor at TheUrbanDaily.com for running a piece on my upcoming book.  http://theurbandaily.com/music/jbarrow/hip-hop-dad-fights-fatherhood-stereotypes-with-new-book/

God Bless!

Man Admits to Allegedly Shooting Tupac in 1994 Robbery

One day before what would be Tupac Shakur's 40th birthday (or will be depending on your belief), a man named Dexter Issac has admitted that he shot Tupac in the infamous November 1994 robbery in Quad Studios according to the good people at Allhiphop.com. Issac, currently serving a life sentence, says he was paid $2500 by Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond to carry out the shooting/robbery. Issac noted he was coming forward now to give Tupac and Biggie's mothers "some closure" and ease his guilty conscience.

Really?

We could have used this information, say, 15 YEARS AGO! Maybe you could have said something when the man was still alive. Where was Mr. Issac when 'Pac was blaming Biggie and Bad Boy for setting him up?

Now he has a guilty conscience? Please.

Who knows what this info, if it's true, could have prevented: oh, a COASTAL WAR, maybe? The death of two music icons, perhaps?

I'm done...

Save the confession....

Nas gets "Nasty"

Nasty Nas is back. The new single from his 10th studio album "Life Is Good", God's Son borrows his original moniker for his latest. Over a stripped down drum beat, Nas takes it back to the essence with no hook and three verses of illmatic wordplay. The track brings to mind "Made You Look". Long the victim of bad beat selection beginning with "I Am..." hopefully the production for the rest of the album will be on par with his debut where the listener can enjoy the music and the lyricism.

Mavericks Win the NBA Title

Jason Terry backed up the tattoo on his bicep. Dirk Nowitzki scored 10 of his 21 points in the 4th quarter despite shooting 4 of 18 to that point. JJ Barea and Deshawn Stevenson dissected the Miami defense inside and outside. All that equals a dramatic closeout victory in the NBA Finals and the first championship in franchise history.

Nowitzki, who had been called a soft player his entire career, put all the criticism to bed this season and in these Finals. The emotions of 13 years of criticism bubbled over after the final horn sounded and the reality that he was an NBA champion and did not have to leave the team that drafted him to get it done set in. So he left the court to have his MJ moment (Michael Jordan famously laid out on the floor of the locker room and sobbed uncontrollably in rememberance of his deceased father after winning his fourth NBA title against the Sonics on Father's Day 1996).

The Heat failed to win the title in their first year together as the original new wave of Big 3 in Boston did in 2008. For many this is a victory for those who stick with one team over the manufactured joining of superstar players. Let the criticism begin, or should I say continue.

The Women in LeBron's Life...Smh

For the second year in a row, LeBron has been rocked at the most inopportune time by a rumor about his family. It has clearly affected his play in the Finals. It is really a shame, but he has to remember that many of the all-time greats played with distractions. Michael Jordan destroyed the Knicks in 1993 after the Bulls were down 2-0 and people in the media questioned if he had a gambling problem.

LeBron has to remember his "Decision" started this firestorm and nothing less than an NBA Championship will validate it. If he was keeping track of everyone that said a bad word about him, he will have to take Ginkoba to remember everyone that will pile on him if Miami loses the NBA Finals.

Why do these rumors surface during LeBron's biggest games? Is it his excuse to fail?

Hope this latest rumor is not true... smh.

Driving in New York (or Any City USA)

I am sure if I did not need to drive to get around in NYC I would add a few more years to my life. I understand why insurance in New York is so high. Below are a few instances that drive me crazy when i'm behind the wheel. How many of these can you relate to?

- People who cruise/sightsee when I am trying to catch the light, know you're trying to go by them and won't let you pass, then speed up when the light turns yellow leaving you stuck at the red light.

- People who sit at a red light knowing they are going to turn and wait until the light turns green to put on their turn signal.

- People who are driving and wait until they get into the intersection to put on their turn signal. Then look over at you while they are waiting to turn wondering why you're upset.

- Pedestrians who take their sweet time crossing the street when you allow them to have the right-a-way at the intersection. You could have easily turned in front of them, but you were nice enough to let them cross and pay dearly for it by waiting 50 years while they stroll (then get angry when you honk them to hurry up).

- Pedestrians who cross AGAINST the light and get mad at you for: a) stopping them from crossing by driving through the green light in front of them, b) driving too close behind them once they finally get out of the street. I understand pedestrians have the right-a-way, but against the light?

- Young knuckleheads who think they can't get hit by a car that walk dangerously close to an oncoming car while crossing, or already in the street and intentionally slow down while crossing almost daring you to hit them.

I'm not even going to get into the cyclists who ride like they are surrounded by four doors and bumpers.

Just my thoughts, ladies and gentlemen

De Ja Vu?

LeBron James had the worst game of his playoff life on Tuesday night (June 7) and it couldn't come at a worse time. With the Miami Heat a half a quarter away from taking a commanding 3-1 lead in the series and Dallas' best player as sick as Michael Jordan against Utah in Game 5 of the 1997 Finals (Dirk Nowitzki had 101 degree fever), the Heat blew a 9 point lead. Just as they blew a 15 point lead in Game 2.

Truthfully the NBA season should be over. The Mavericks should have been swept out of the NBA Finals, but the Heat have made it a series. Conspiracy theorists believe Miami could be throwing these games to prolong the series, which is utterly ridiculous with all the crap Miami went through as a team being criticized and dissected from all angles. The last thing they want to do is keep playing games in these Finals giving an athletically inferior Dallas team more confidence in the process.

James has been criticized more than anyone. Vilified for the way he left his hometown team with an announcement on national TV, he was oddly absent mentally from any of the on-court activity in Game 4. With Dwyane Wade playing his heart out (32 points) to try to secure that commanding lead in the series all he needed was 15 points from LeBron James instead of the eight he notched in the stat sheet. One sports writer said D Wade might have felt abandoned by James the way he played.

Anyone who saw James performance (term used very lightly) in Game 4 immediately thought about Game 5 of last year's Boston series, LeBron's second to last game as a Cleveland Cavalier, where an alleged sex scandal involving his mother and another teammate shattered his confidence in his team leading to some God-awful basketball from James in the pivotal game. James followed that up with the quietest triple-double in playoff history in a series-clinching Game 6 loss. Anyone who witnessed those performances against Boston and compare that to how he dueled Paul Pierce to the bitter end in Game 7 of the 2008 conference finals know LeBron was not there mentally last year.

James had the same look in his eye in Game 4 of this series. There is no Delonte West on Miami, and James can't complain his team isn't good enough because D-Wade is carrying the team in the Finals. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith alluded to a family issue that has James distracted.

While I hope all is well with his family, unfortunately the majority of the people who are rooting for the Heat to win or media members covering the game don't give a rat's you-know-what if you have family problems. You are getting paid 110.7 million over 6 years, you left a city high and dry to join two superstars to win the NBA Championship that will help define your legacy, you bragged in a pre-training camp pep rally/celebration that your team would win "not 5, not 6, not 7..." rings, yet two wins away from the goal in your first season you let off-the-court distractions affect you enough to completely take you out of the game?

That is unacceptable. Jordan played with the flu and food poisoning (possibly done by a fan of the Utah Jazz who worked in hotel he was staying in) and scored 38 points including the game winning three-pointer, Dirk Nowitzki played with not only the distraction of a torn tendon in his left middle finger, but a fever of 101 and hit the game-winning lay up, D Wade played at a high level despite enormous family issues: nasty accusations by his ex-wife that he gave her an STD, an equally nasty divorce and a custody battle. Wade never complained. He left it all on the court. The Heat cannot lose this series. His play comes on the heels of trash talk from two players James had shut down defensively until Game 4: Jason Terry and Deshawn Stevenson. After both being a non-factor in the Finals who knows what gave Terry and Stevenson the balls to talk crap about James. They must have known something everyone else didn't.

If the Heat lose this series LeBron will never live Game 4 down. He will be ridiculed in the offseason and through next season, if there is one. If LeBron had played a decent game Tuesday night the Heat probably would have won the game and no one is complaining.

But the Heat lost because LeBron looked lost. Is he tired? No time to be tired now, it's the NBA Finals. You got this far. Tired (Jim Mora voice www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwq7BYOnDrM)?

I expect LeBron to explode offensively in Game 5, sorta like he does whenever he plays at Madison Square Garden, smh.

Thought of the Day

My four year-old was sitting in the waiting room of a doctor's office with me the other day. He was playing with his Buzz Lightyear toy and an elderly white man was so taken by how much energy my son had that he changed seats to get closer. My son brought his toy to the chair next to the man to show him and even gave the man high fives.
I have been in neighboroods that were primarily Jewish and the young children are very friendly while most of the adults were standoffish and/or rude.

I have ridden the train where kids of all ethnicities are in their stroller, innocent as can be. The way they smile at total strangers who ogle at them. There is no fear in that baby's heart. The child is not thinking about race.

Racism is a learned behavior. It pains me to think that these kids who are so pleasant may grow up to discriminate against someone else because an adult teaches them a certain skin color means a person is bad.

Why can't adults be as color blind as our children?

Weiner Confesses

The punchlines couldn't be laid out any easier for late-night talk show hosts and comedians around the country. With a last name that is synonymous with sausage, Rep. Anthony Weiner should know better than to get caught with his shirt off and his pants down sexting via social media. He should know that there are watchdogs hiding in the cyber bushes waiting for our congressmen, governors, and President to slip up so they can fan the flames of scandal.

Yet these idiots continue to get caught in a compromising position. They continue to vehemently deny the accusatory questions only to tearfully admit their indiscretions, with the humiliated spouse as the innocent bystander.

There was Governor Eliot Spitzer, champion of all things moral and ethical in his fight to rid the streets of scum only to be exposed as a connoisseur of fine smut. How he landed back on television I do not know. There was "Ahnold the Governator" Schwarzenegger, poster man for every gratuitously bloody action-hero stereotype (which he was never criticized yet Black movies set in urban neighborhoods with the same violence were derided as negative for kids) somehow got voted into public office we now know three or four years AFTER fathering a bastard son with his housekeeper. These are dirty secrets that are supposed to be unearthed BEFORE the politician makes it into office, right? Exactly who was in charge of the vetting process here? Bad enough his wife Maria Shriver had the unfortunate ties to the Kennedy clan and all their alleged history of philandering, she has to deal with this demoralizing betrayal from a man who most surely now groped those women that accused him during his campaign.

And here we have Mr. Tater Tot, er... Weiner. He of the passionate rant on the House floor months ago, will now be known for posting lewd pictures on Twitter. For following a porn star on Twitter. Things that have nothing to do with his political acumen, but will bring him down nonetheless.

You know the NBA has a symposium for incoming rookies letting them know about the perils and pitfalls and, more importantly, the great responsibility they are taking on to not only conduct themselves with integrity, dignity and respect, but to also respect that they are the face of their employer: the NBA. They screw up, the NBA as a whole looks bad.

Maybe politicians need something like this to remind them that they are the face of the constituents they say they are fighting for. These repeated indiscretions destroy all confidence and credibility, sorta like that guy who predicted the end of the world would come two weeks ago. His followers are still trying to re-establish a presence in society, like they just came out of jail or something.

Ridiculous.

How do these guys allow the stupidest things to derail them is beyond me.

Obama, you better not....

That's all I'm gonna say...

Do or Die for Dallas

Game 4 of the NBA Finals is a must win for Dallas.

That, my friends, is the understatement of the NBA year. While the Finals has been entertaining thus far, complete with one of the greatest comebacks in NBA Finals history, Dallas could easily be up 2 games to 1 instead of vice versa if anyone else besides Dirk and Shawn Marion could hit a shot. The same cast of characters that swept away the aging Los Angeles Lakers in a barrage of outside shooting are looking like an intramural squad against the stifling defense of the Miami Heat.

Granted the likes of Jason Terry (completly shutdown by LeBron James), JJ Barea, and Peja Stojakovich are not getting the wide open looks they enjoyed during most of their post season, but when they do get some daylight, they are missing badly. Barea can't even get to the rim on a consistent basis. The Lakers, save for Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant (15 years of NBA grind on 32 year old body) and Ron Artest, are just as young as the Heat's Big 3, if not younger yet they were unable to move their feet, especially the bigs Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol (who had his own issues). Is the Heat defense that good?

Dallas needs to be as aggressive as Dwyane Wade was in game 3. Wade refused to let the Game 2 meltdown carry over. As Dirk said in the Game 3 post game presser, Dallas can't continue to fall behind by double digits and have to fight back. In the last two games Dirk pretty much did all the scoring to lead Dallas' charge. Anyone else getting open shots could not put the ball in the basket. Terry who takes offense to other teams celebrating needs to do something about it on the court.

Some people may compare what Dirk is going through to what LeBron endured in Cleveland. Fact is, Dirk has a better team than LeBron had in Cleveland, but his supporting cast's jump shot has surely gone the way of Mo Williams in crunch time.

That has to change.

ESPN writer Rick Reilly has an excellent piece giving 20 reasons why you should be pulling for Dallas to win the NBA Finals. Read it here: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=6614490

All valid points, but I am through picking against the Heat. At the beginning of the NBA season I predicted the Heat would not win it all this year, but three great players have proven better than one so far. Dirk needs a "Robin" to step up and make this a series again. He deserves it for, as Reilly eloquently puts it, "taking his talents to the damn gym."

Sarah Palin At It Again

I officially despise John McCain. Back in 2008 he thought he was going to get more female voters to vote for him by stunning the Republican faithful and choosing little known Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. I am sure it is a decision he regrets to this day along with everyone who has to continue to put up with this lady's nonsense.

She was exposed three years ago as someone who did not know important facts about U.S. history, did not know foreign policies, and looked like a school girl who didn't study as she ad-libbed through her infamous Katie Couric interview. Yet none of these flubs, that Republicans would use to destroy a Democratic candidate, seem to have hurt her popularity. She continues to have many followers, put out two "best-selling" books, and is now trying to run for President in 2012.

Well, while on her bus tour through Boston someone asked her another simple American history question about Paul Revere's midnight ride. Even I remember the trademark "the British is coming, the British is coming" cry from my elementary school days. This genius said that Revere was warning the British that were already in Massachussetts as well as Samuel Adams and John Hancock. But that's not the kicker...

Not only did she go on Fox News Sunday to justify her version of history, but her delusional supporters were trying to change history of Paul Revere's ride on Wikipedia to fit Palin's version of events. Only the Tea Party...

I go back to Barack Obama or Michelle Obama for that matter. If they were to make bonehead statements like Palin they would get crucified in the media! Yet this lady continues to ride around like she knows what she is talking about.

Do I have to deal with another 18 months of this woman?

No really, do I?

Mitt Romney put an end to this nonsense.

Plaxico Burress to Be Released From Prison

Plaxico Burress will be released from prison on Monday June 6th after serving a 20 month sentence for carrying an unlicensed gun into the Latin Quarter night club and accidentally shooting himself. Burress, who was instrumental in the New York football Giants improbable upset win in Super Bowl XLII, will most likely land on an NFL team once the NFL labor dispute ends.

Although I believe the St. Louis Rams will make him a lucrative offer, I hope the New York Giants do whatever they can to bring Burress back into the fold. I understand he embarrassed the organization with the shooting and he wasn't a model citizen while on the team, not practicing on a regular basis and arriving late to many team meetings, but the fact is quarterback Eli Manning never had a target at wide receiver as big and long as Burress. When Burress left the team, Manning struggled trying to lead passes to Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.

While Burress returning to the Giants is a long shot, they cannot allow him to go to Philadelphia. The Phillies are already stacked in baseball, let's not make the football team a powerhouse.

Go Blue!

Shaq Says Goodbye

Shaquille O'Neal, 39, the NBA's oldest active player made his retirement official Friday (June 3rd), reiterating what he revealed in a video posted to Twitter two days earlier that his NBA playing days are over. "Never thought this day would come," O'Neal said. "Father Time has finally caught up with Shaquille O'Neal."

He insisted he will not return, nor will he coach anyone but his three sons. His career ends with 28,596 points, 13,099 rebounds, 15 All-Star selections, four championships and three NBA Finals MVP awards.

Rihanna Takes Risk With "Man Down" Video

The latest single "Man Down" from Rihanna's LOUD album world premiered on BET's 106 and Park a couple of days ago. The video is a graphic depiction of the song lyrics that speak on Rihanna shooting a man "in front of a big ol' crowd". The video starts with the actual shooting and then shows the events that lead up to the violent act. With her recent history still kind of defined by the 2009 Chris Brown assault, this video is definitely refreshingly poignant and unexpected (I can't remember the last time an actual gun was not blurred out in a video, early 90's?) and has already caused some controversy. Rihanna who has a lot of people in her corner as a result of the aforementioned Brown beating will definitely strike a chord with young women here.

Rihanna took to her Twitter page to tell fans "Thank you for the amazing response on Man Down video I love you guys, and I love that u got it!!! Young girls/women all over the world... we are a lot of things! We're strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable, and sometimes our innocence can cause us to be naive!"

The singer continued, "We always think it could never be us, but in reality, it can happen to any of us! So ladies be careful and listen to yo mama! I love you and I care!"

Thought of the Day

If someone hates on you they most likely want what you have.
